It all started back in 1947 when Shelia Dwight now Shelia Farebrother gave birth to a little boy she named Reginald Kenneth Dwight. His father Stanley Dwight was in the Royal Air Force when Reg was born. He father played the trumpet when Elton was growing up. Shelia and Stanley eventually got devorced and married other people. When Elton was about 12 he got a scholarship to the Royal Academy of music. Reg had seen an ad in a local newspaper that needed song writers. Reg thought he might look into it and he did. The people from the the ad hooked Reg up with a man named Bernie Taupin. Bernie couldn't write music and Elton had a hard time writing lyrics so the people from the ad said they would be good together. know one new that there partner ship would last 30 years and even longer. Reg met Bernie Taupin in the late 60s and they became a song writing team. They wrote songs like Lady Samatha and Skyline Pigeon. There first really big hit was Your Song. From 1971 to 1975 Elton had seven albums that were big hits including Honky Chateau, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Goodby Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, Elton John's Greatest Hits, Captin Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, and Rock of the Westies. Elton called those five years the big cheese five year period. I will a more when I get the chance. Thanks for visiting it though, Amanda |
